I highjacked someone else's thread with this post. Has any one seen something like this? 6.52 gms. Somehow I thought the date is 1960.

I highly doubt it is lead. Just looks like an extreme Dryer Coin. Damage.

It weighs 6.2 gms. The reason I think it is lead is that is that a light push on the edge with an exacto knife leaves a mark. It could be some other heavy soft metal, but certainly not nickel.

Most likely a Dryer Coin and a victim of elements. The white balance in the picture is way too over exposed and making it look more whitish than it is.Not a chance to be a Lead.

If it is lead you should be able to bend it with your fingers .

People seem to be overlooking that this would be 1.5 grams overweight for a normal nickel and Dryer Coin doesn't explain that.

As T-BOP asks, can you bend it? No harm in trying, there's no value here anyway.

Or bite into it like a pirate testing a Gold or Silver Doubloon .

If it is lead, you should be able to draw a line on a piece of paper.

Great idea Tonnioc. I think we can rule out numismatic forgery.

I don't know where this came from, hadn't looked the US coins in years. Pretty sure it was cast, but who and why?

A specific gravity test would be conclusive for composition. A U.S. nickel coin (75% Cu, 25% Ni) is 8.92. Pure lead would be 11.34. If it is lead, my best guess would be a souvenir from a summer camp craft program experiment in sand casting, using scrap lead, such as fishing line sinkers.
