Found this penny today, I hardly look at reverses, but this time I did and I have found 2.
Where is the copper or did it dissolve?

Looks like some sort of environmental damage. I think the copper is still there, just toned from whatever is on the coin.

Not pure copper, 95% copper 5% tin/zinc.

For all intents and proposes, the coin is copper--not copper plating applied on a core consisting of a different metal.
