Greetings fellow members and glad tidings of the season to you all. Boring Sunday awaiting the NFL playoff game and I stumbled on this perusing ebay. Im not entirely sure if ill be using the buy it now feature but I thought we'd all find it interesting. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...150318912607

Its a New England shilling. Most likely fake, and if he does not know what it is, then why is the price set so high?
My red flags are going off.

Their little story makes it seem so.... innocent. "I found this old metal thingy...oh what could it be?" Dunno, but let's price it at $15K BIN. Here I might as well post a real one from Heritage

It must be one of the easiest coins ever to fake ? This ones noticable in that your pic KurtS shows the sweeping N going under the E as does every other pic ive looked at of a genuine one.
Noticable too is the story is unstable as any house built near sand.

Quote: It must be one of the easiest coins ever to fake ? no doubt--which makes verification all the more critical, particuarly since the coin above went for $373,750. It's a familiar yarn: someone "finds" a coin in an attic or buried somewhere that evokes the imagination: a Florida beach, a civil war battleground, or a ghost town. Feigning ignorance, yet the seller suspects its valuable, pricing it low enough to entice somebody to think they've struck it rich. This is a classic "gold brick" confidence trick, and ebay is rife with these, which might suggest something about their venue (imo).

I think petty theft is under 500.00 and a felony is 500.00 and over? Maybe he should settle for a opener of 499.99?

the seller can't even get the story straight....the title says it was found while metal detecting but the item description says it was found while building a house......FAKE!
