What you have in between g and o is a die chip and I don't see any doubling on the obverse. Please try posting full images of the reverse. No DDR should not be affecting the obverse.
I think it's just the way they all looked that year, as coop said, and a little metal movement from contact in that area as seen in the G O and the R U.
Is it just me, or did a 2020 Jefferson nickel sneak in there for a couple of pics?
