Has anyone seen this before? Would someone or something polish the rim only. It looks taller and wider then normal as well. Looking for your expertise. TY

when I was a young boy, I would take some Wheat cent coins and hold them much like the OP and rub the rim on the sole of my sneakers. The result was an extremely shiny edge of the coin while the rest had it dark patina.

This coin looks just like that what I did as a kid

Not sure what the question is. But here are a few answers:
1. The wide rims are normal for that year.
2. Rubbing the coin to polish a coin doesn't ruin the value. Rubbing down the devices on faces of the coin will lower the value to a coin.
3. Finger prints on a copper coin when not removed at the time, will leave permanent damage to the surface of the BU coin.
4. The V.D.B. was added this year to the obverse location that we see today. The dots on the initials remained till around 1935, when they stopped. Today the dots are not present on the coins since then.
5. People do things to coins that they don't realize that will affect their collect ability.
6. The EPU devices look taller, but the die wear is making it appear that they are taller.
