There is a small area below the eagles beak showing a gap between the birds right wing and body. I found it interesting so I thought I would share! Thanks!

It's interesting! I haven't seen this on another Susan B. I would think it was caused by excessive die polishing, but I'm not sure. The only other reason I can think of would be a weak strike, but the rest of the coin looks okay.

Let's see what the others have to say.

Edit: Looking at the coin again, I do think it's a die polishing situation. The edge and details of the moon in that area also seem soft.

I believe this is a result of a completely worn out die and also maybe some grease to boot. Look at the definition of the bird's outer right wing curvature and downward and the relief of the outline of the wing. It is not there, completely missing. Compare your coin with PCGS photos. The breast feathers, amongst other things, are also lacking and not visible. Just a deteriorated die IMHO.

More of an issue with Machine Doubling. Note the UNITED STATES devices and you will see the same direction of push on those devices. Just Machine Doubling after the strike. Not a DDO.
