Continuing with subject 2 on conserving coins, this 1893 Indian cent has detail hidden underneath, what methods would you consider in bringing back the details without harming too much of the surface?   I'm reluctant to show the other 2 large cents, so after some responds from these post I will upload the other two. |

This one would be a great coin to put into some Verdi-Care for a long term soak!, I think it would do pretty well on it. Trouble is finding the stuff, last bottle was the .4 oz. and it sold on ebay for just over $100.00 which is crazy. I wish BadThad would make up another batch, but he seem to be busy with other things in life now. It's great stuff, I still have enough to last me the rest of my life (knock on copper)! Blue Ribbon? Gone forever, due to toxic ingredients harmful to the environment and the human. Verdi-Care? About impossible to get now Coin-Care? Never tried it, know nothing about it, heard it's pretty good from other collectors of early copper coins. Classic Coin Conditioner? Another product I know nothing about, but hear it's good. Conserve Solvent? Once again a new product, it looks similar to Verdi-Care, I've no knowledge of it however. Blu-Bow Conditioner? Same as above JSP Brightner/Cleaner? Comapany says "contains no acids", it look a lot like acetone mixed with peroxide or , never used, no knowledge. They supply jewelry shops and dental labs primarily. Looks like the coin is too far gone for any kind of conserving . The Verdi-Care as mentioned by westcoin might have helped it if soaked for a while but just try to find it .  |

Try Google searching on how museums treat ancient coins to passivate bronze disease. (or, at least, on how other copper and bronze artifacts of archaeological importance are treated. Coin pictured certainly worth some investigation, and perhaps some experimentation. You never know, there may be some appropriate treatment for this coin.  |

@westcoin, thanks you for your suggestion and sorry about the 2 cents coin, that would be a beauty if not for the for bronze disease. I wouldn't bother with trying with subject 4 now, subject 3 is a 1853 large cent I think it can be save in a shorter time. I will post that one soon.
@sel, not a chemist but I will give it a shot after trying out off the shelf products first to do testing, it probably the same what the museum is using, and I'm paying for a relatively small quantity.

So this is what I'd so far with soaking in Classic Coin Conditioner for a few minutes to each side, around 3-4 minutes, rub it gently with Q-Tips, it pick up some verdigris? Notice the area with the verdigris turns dark. The instructions doesn't mention how long, it leaves a thin layer of grease like residue? Then I tried using Conserv, again this product has similar grease like residue, used same Q-Tip method and gently rub effected areas, again instructions don't mention how long, so I change Q-Tips three times, once I see dirt on the Q-Tips. This also was around 3-4 minutes on each side.   After it drys, the verdigris came back, because I haven't soak it long enough? But it's not as much as before. I will leave this one and move onto subject 3, and perhaps soak it for 10 minutes and see what sort of outcome might be. |

Can't say it would fix this coin ever, but it would improve it greatly IMO. See this http://goccf.com/t/378882At least playing around with this coin you aren't hurting it anymore than it already has been, and there isn't any really money to toss out, you might improve a $1 or $2 coin into a $3 coin at best or at worst make it a $0.50 or $1.00 coin. It looks like you are going to have to try a museum technique for verdigris passivation, with this coin.
