I did have a lot of sun at the coin show. I did pick up some supplies and cheaper coins that I thought was a good deal. Such as a 1943p Uncirculated
War Nickel for real cheap. The one deal I was super excited about was getting a roll of
Mercury dimes for just over melt!! That's not too much more than current melt prices. (I'm not sure if I can list prices here or not)
I didn't end up with any other large purchases as I thought I would have. I ended up worrying about spending too much after having to replace my car. Overall I was very happy with what I ended up with. About 40 coins, supplies, a 1976 proof set. and I got a nice 2 dollar bill as change from one of the vendors. That was awesome! It has a nice serial number too! I may post some pictures later.
The only thing I am sort of 50-50 on if I should have picked up was a $50 sealed mint bag of 2004 nickels for a little bit over face value. Not sure what I will do with it. It did drawl my attention every time I went by it and I talked the dealer into what I think is a decent price.
On to the car story for those who are interested. Sorry for the length but I hope you enjoy!:
We had a 2015 Kia Sedona SX van for the past few years. Due to an extended hospital stay for me, followed by 2 years of bed rest, the van didn't get the standard services needed. Oil changes and the like. Between that, sliding off the road into a snow embankment in New Mexico, and several other things. We had some engine troubles that would have costed a few thousand dollars just to investigate the issues. So we were thinking of trading it in at some point.later. But after Tuesday night we didn't want it to die on us.
Me and my wife planned on leaving on Tuesday for the coin show a day early. Do some site seeing on Wednesday and the coin show Thursday-Friday. Well Tuesday my wife drove my son to some appointments with no real issues. When They got home I planned on going to get some gas, a haircut, and a few other things. And the van had some issues cranking.
Ok, I'll go to the auto parts store to get the battery checked and replaced if needed. The test revealed that the battery AND alternator was going bad. The parts alone were starting at $600. I declined the part went home to discuss things with my wife. Still haven't gotten that haircut. $4-$8 thousand for engine repairs, battery, alternator, getting time for new breaks, etc... it was just too much.
So we didn't leave Tuesday night as we didn't want to get stranded somewhere. We put the trip on hold a day while we debated a rental, borrowing a car from family, a new car, or canceling the trip altogether.
We decided to go see if we could get any end of the month/Independence Day deals. We left our house at 9:30am. And the first place we stopped was a Kia dealership. My wife was leaning towards a SUV as my kids are older and we don't really need a van anymore. This was a smaller dealership and there selection wasn't very good. We tried to work out a deal but decided the small SUV they were trying to sell us wouldn't fit our needs. So we left. The called a few times to try and get a deal, but nothing they could do would work for us.
We started looking for cars online and was about to get up when my wife a 2016 Kia Sedona SXL van for a good price at another dealership. They had just got the van in and posted it online so the salesman didn't even know they had it. We ended up talking them down to a good price and purchased it. The best part was that is was still in line at the shop to get new tires and safety inspection. So they gave us a loaner, and a full tank of gas for our trip. It was nice to not have to put the miles on our car!
We got back home at 8:30 pm after a long day (11 hours). We packed up and drove 3 hours to the hotel. Checked in at 1 am and was able to get some rest before the coin show started at 10am.
We did have a good time even though we had some long days getting there!
