I am looking for any information on this small brass token that features a specific style of bagpipe known as a cabrette. The text and imagery is identical on both sides. What does A CONSOMMER mean too please and why the numerals 10?
There's a thread about a similar token here: http://goccf.com/t/281927 "A Consommer" literally means "to consume" - i.e. to be used for food or drink. Presumably the bagpipes were the logo of the establishment that issued the token. The figure '10' presumably means that the token had a face value of 10 centimes.
Thanks for the welcome John1 and to NumisRob for the invaluable info and links which I have already followed up but will delve into now I've got a trail to follow!!
