I recently posted about a month & a half ago my first Morgan purchases. I got hooked on silver coins period. Since then, I've sort of scaled back on my FEs, IHC & Wheat collecting & began to purchase more & more silver from different eras, as well as country's. Golds too expensive & silver just seems more logical @ this point. Anyway, I recently started purchasing Morgans & Peace dollars by year to begin on a complete set of each by year of mint. Just curious on if that's how some of you do it, or do most of you just gobble them up @ a reasonable price. No offense to anyone else's collecting practice, but I only buy raw, from reputable sellers. I can get better deals & start off at a reasonably economic pace. So far I have all O's & S's. Cannot justify spending a loot on the CCs @ this time. Thanks, Eric |

Halfabust ...... just returned to this post & almost laughed myself off the couch. Not..... I repeat not the complete set. I only have 8 Morgans & a few Peace. They are either Os or Ss. I still have a long way to go for a complete set. I'm just starting the set. Just wondering if anyone has finished either or both. & what you might recommend in the ways of collecting each year.... sorry; non-slabbed. Eric  |

Well, I can tell you what I'm doing with my Morgan/Peace collecting. For Morgans, my goal is to collect at least one from each year, and more mint marks from each year plus whatever varieties I can find reasonably priced. I have all the years except 1893 & 1895, but I really haven't tried too terribly hard up until this point.

I started out trying to complete a date/mm set that was comprised of 1 of each coin minted from each mint for each year they were minted in MS-64 or higher by either NGC or PCGS. and almost had a complete set except for the coins that costed over $3,000 each in MS-64. From there I put that on the back burner for 1878 VAM's and once I had completed the finest known 1878-P B1 Reverse set I started selling off all my MS-64's and decided I was just going to have a minimum grade of MS-66 so I basically started over and life happened and that has been on the back burner while I tried to complete my Dansco 7070 album but I will soon have that album finished and I will restart the date/mm set in MS-66 and above once again.
