So this is one of those rare occasions I'm completely stumped on a coin. In hand it's not quite 'proofy'. It's either PO1 or B04 (same die pair).

For info on this pairing read pages 414-417, and page 422.

Here's the original auction I bought this from, labeled as a PCGS PR UNC Details Corrosion Removed.

Anyhow, here's the coin in hand. The biggest thing in the way of me agreeing with PCGS that this is a proof is the '5' and the denticles.

I'm voting proof. Two biggest indicators for me are the filled 5, and the sharpness of the hair. P01 exhibiting similar sharpness as your coin, B04 showing less detail. As mentioned, there's Dentil distortion (great band name btw) due to low striking pressure evident, BUT, this is last on my list as a good number of both proofs and business strikes exhibit this, so not the greatest marker.

Totally not my area so sorry for the uninformed questions.
Is it a matte proof? What is going on with the left side of the first 8?

Your auction link is no good, I did find the coin at Heritage though, your photos are actually better.

Try this link: https://coins.ha.com/itm/three-cent...2124-25109.s

Wish it was the business strike for you, but I think the key is the 5 in the date, the business strike is supposed to have no filling at all, the proof does have the filling, and so does your coin. Are the hair braids recut? Can't really tell from yours or Heritage's photos.

I'm at proof unfortunately, no big lotto hit on this coin. Fletcher and Flynn's Authoritative Reference on Three Cent Nickels 3rd edition doesn't really add much. David Poole is the known expert on 3CN Proofs maybe Julian knows him? I don't but he would be a guy to get to look at your coin and offer an opinion.

NOTE: (On the Heritage links you need to cut everything after the question mark and the question mark too) If you edit the comment on CCF the URL enclosures go away and should be re done, as the links are long enough to break on a non wide browser screen too.

The filling of the 5 would seem to seal it's fate as a proof in my opinion. Rims look quite squared off as well.
