Hi guys wondering if anyone could help me out I came across this dollar coin. I've already taken it to one coin guy who said to take it to an expert to look at it closer but he said he doesn't think its been manufactured (as in someones tried to lathe it) but it's slightly thicker than you normal dollar by maybe half a millimetre and it weighs the same as a normal dollar coin. I'm located in Melb can anyone help me with this coin!? Cheers !!

To the CCF

Looks like it has been intentionally removed.
Possibly to fit into piece of jewellery?

Hey Jimmy D yeah the coin guy I took it to says it doesn't look like somebody has manufactured it. When you look closely at it you can tell that it hasn't been machined because it's not perfectly circular it has little bumps and indents all the way around which would suggest it isn't. Plus it would be underweight if that were the case?

My main issue with it being a "mint error" is that it's quite heavily worn. The coin loks distinctly odd, and I'd assume people (and the banks) would have pulled it out of circulation long before it got to this state.

I'd concur post-mint damage.

2nd of these supposed errors to show up in the last 5 days, different years, almost identical (except for the years). Both in Melbourne area.

Someone might have bought a new lathe and needs to see what mischief they can create.

It looks a bit 'out of round' too.
