Good morning, I have been trying to post clearer and smaller photos of Ike one dollar. I have tried my iPAD and the microscope that I have which is a plugable that I ordered from Amazon. I have cropped the photo using the optimizer and the program on my computer. I still cant get it down to 300kb. Any suggestion? Perhaps I need a better microscope. |

After cropping using the optimizer, reduce the width to get it down to the correct size.

Reduce the sharpness, not width. You want to increase compression (data reduction), not visible size.

You can reduce sharpness if you're using your own photo processing software, but you can't do that using CCF's image optimizer. You have to change width size to get the image below 300kb.

65-70% compression is perfectly fine for the internet.

I have tried the optimizer but it doesn't show all the details of the coin. I have a plugable USB 2.0 digital microscope that I purchased from Amazon. It will photograph the coin but not enough light to show all the points of it. I have tried cropping and lightning in editing but it's still too dark. When I crop the photo it seems to get larger so I am thinking not to crop but work with the brightness. On the other hand, there is still a lot of space around the coin and that's why I cropped it. I tried using light from other sources but it doesn't help. I will continue to try again after taking breaks. I will work with it because I am not able to buy a microscope that I really need, at least not yet. Thanks for the response |

Try using a hand held LED flashlight with a filter on it. John1 |

@jbuck, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but when I open the image optimizer, the default sharpness is 0. I can only increase sharpness, not reduce it.

Reduce the percentage by 15-20% and see if that's all you need, check the pixel width size like Bobby example. It could be you're taking at too high of image resolution.

Here's an Ike dollar I photographed yesterday. I cropped and reduced the file to 1 mb in photoshop. Then it compressed further to 270 kb when I opened it up in image optimizer. I reduced the width to 800x800 and saved, leaving me with a 140 kb image to upload.  |

Nice photos and I thank you all for responding. I guess I am going to have to work on it. I keep getting th emesaage from the optimizer that my photos were too large. I guess it take some computer skills...as well as tech skill

I believe if it is below a certain (data) size it will not let you reduce it because it is not necessary. Quote:Here's an Ike dollar I photographed yesterday... Looking good! I reduce it to 190KB using the optimizer. When I go back and try to post it using the CCF window for files and click on post to coinchatter post. It hasnt changed at all...I am going to keep trying....
