...not seriously, but I do have some neat stuff in my bank box. Went to the bank today to do some shuffling and decided to bring this bag home. This is one thing that came out of my Grandfathers collection, he was a big buyer of proof and mint sets. He even wrote on them what he paid, etc. The bag of goodies! Yea, that's two HUGE dessicant packs in there! What's in there? How about a completely original 1952 Proof set. How much did he pay? WOW! Keep diggin to look: Lots of diggin to get in! Coins look exactly the same as when I put them in the bank. Sadly, the mint packaging in 1952 was horrible, oh well:

What else is in that bag? How about an original Grandpa 1953 Proof set? And a 1957 Mint set...I had to remove it from the original packaging, it was HORRIBLE and falling apart, but I kept the packaging. The quarter is nicely toned: Say goodbye! Back to the bank tomorrow to go back to sleep!

Nice stuff! That pretty much sums it up for me...your grandfather did exactly what I plan on doing, passing them along to family members! It's pretty sad when people receive coins and just look to sell them. I'd suggest maybe writing down how they came about into your family's possession so future generations will have something to relate to rather than looking at them as "some old coins". Kudos to you for keeping them!

I am shocked that you know what another coin besides a cent looks like, lol. What makes those coins more important is where they came from and the sentimental value behind them. I know that if they were AG3 they would still be a very great set for me as well.

WHAT!? How could you! :)
Pretty cool sets you have especially being from your grandfather. I have never rec'd a coin or anything from my grandparents or even parents that is sentimental value. Sad isn't it! This is the reason I collect today is for my son/future grandson to post pics of coins like this someday. Thanks for sharing

I like the '53 set in the Capital Holder. I've got a couple from the mis-'50s and 1 is in a black Capital Proof set holder. They're an excellent way to display these sets.

Nice sets Thad. I can appreciate getting nice coins from relatives. They are the basis of my collection. I hope my daughter or grand children will keep them also.

Makes you wonder how many coins I have purchased that someone received from a relative and just sold them right away without thinking twice. Kinda sad, but what can you do.

I too wish my parents of grandparents would have been coin collectors and left them to me. The only coins I ever got from a relative was those Missouri Mills way, way back

Thad, thanks for the view and please share more if you can. I too have never received a coin from a relative, you must be special and your grandparents also to have had been bitten by the collecting bug back then and now you are the keeper till you decide to pass them along.I too collect and hope the family members do the right thing when the time comes and hold on to what is obviously near and dear to me and took soooo long to gather up..I too collect many types of coins and currency, and love my mint and proof sets, especially the ones from the fifties, again thanks for sharing, Mike

I think its awesome that Thad collects for an obvious reason, his kids and or soon to be grandkids (not sure about this one!?) I hand it to anyone that is doing the same. I myself have a 1 month old (just about) and I know exactly why I collect now.
