Hi All. I present to you the 6th coin chosen from the raw collection. Here we have a 1838 Coronet Head Cent. IMO This one has less issues than the 1836 coin, maybe a straight grade? What are your opinions on grade and condition? Worth getting slabbed?

Fluorescent vs LED and video.

This might be super obvious for someone, but I placed this 1838 Coronet Large Cent into the type set I'm working on (as a place holder) and it does not seem to fit like it should. It's very loose and moves around in the 1816-39 coronet large cent hole, but fits perfect in the 1840-57 Braided Hair Coronet hole. Did a quick wiki search on the series and couldnt find anything. Any ideas?

I'd say F15, not worth submitting for grading.

As for diameter. Lg cents were all over the place, anywhere from 27-29mm. A lot of variance, especially around 1836 with design changes. I want to say the 1838 is 27.5, maybe 28mm (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Add a decent amount of wear on your example and Dansco shooting large, and there you have it.

Ty2020 said it all. Straight F-15 for me.

Dansco has to shoot high with the hole size. I have a Dansco large cent set and most holes are oversized for coin I put in the hole.

I'm in at F15 also. not worth slabbing. first photos may be to bright as it appears that the coin had an old cleaning. might grade straight.

F-12. The type set album hole size uses the larger sized earlier Large Cents.
