Quote: I'd love to hear more about this, so it's no really an error but happens at the mint? Just because something happens at the mint, it does not make it an error. If that was the case, all the coins with bag marks would be errors. It is only an error if it happens during the actual striking of the coin while in the striking chamber.

Are the dyes added after the striking process? And I know I can collect what ever I want lol, if there isn't any info on the coin on coin Canada then I ask here. And even if it's no premium it's a bit older and in good condition and with the polishing makes it look Kool imo. That's why I'd keep.

Quote: Are the dyes added after the striking process? The DIES are the main part of the minting process. They would have been polished before they were put in the striking chamber. Suggest that you read up on how coins are minted and it will help you in understanding what is possible and what is not in the striking of the coin.

So then this does happen during the minting process? But it's not considered an error? And iv read a bit into it I just don't understand why some fetch a premium. Or are considered varieties? It's just confusing to me.

Quote: So then this does happen during the minting process? No, as I stated earlier they are polished BEFORE the go in the striking chamber so therefore cannot be an error Quote: They would have been polished before they were put in the striking chamber. And they are not considered Varieties.

Ok so it happens before the stamping, but some over polished die coins fetch a premium, and are stated as varieties on coin and Canada, like the 1990 bare belly beaver right? So what makes some of these coins premium and some not?

I'm curious now about why the little spot where it looks like the beavers neck in the middle managed to stay there even though the rest was gone? I'm not even sure exactly what they do to polish or over polish a dime. Was this spot just missed?

Only the high spots get removed during polishing. And it is a Nickel, not a Dime

That was my auto correct sorry, meant to say coin not dime. And makes sense. I'm not sure that the spot left over is really a lower point. Looks like that spot is hire then some of the nek that's missing but I don't have the lense to look close enough. Or when you say hi points I think I'm taking that backwards. High point on the die is what your talking about right? Not high points on the coin?.
