I am in the process of purchasing these two coins however I am relatively new to ancient coins and am looking for any information that can help me identify if these were minted during his life or not. I have seen some things about Zeus' foot positioning but I hardly know what to look for. I am also interested in matching the writing on the coins. If you have any information or can steer me in the right direction it is much appreciated.

Welcome.

I believe the drachm to the right, with the club of Herakles in the reverse left field, may be a lifetime issue from Lampsakos.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for this piece of info, narrowing it down on my own seems impossible but this definitely helps my search.

The left one has ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ (Philip) on the reverse, as opposed to the AΛEΞANΔPOY (Alexander) on the right coin.

I could be wrong, but I believe, with that left coin, you've got a posthumous issue, Philip III Arrhidaios from Magnesia ad Maeandrum.

Is this a similar mint to the lifetime that I am looking at?

Thank you for remaining patient with me Bob lol
Is there a good place to look for more information about this particular mint? I tried using some of the reference websites but they are not the easiest to navigate.

Good Morning CCF,

Yesterday with the help of Bob in the community I was able to better identify the first coins I have purchased.
Help-With-2-Alexander-The-Great-Coins

The coin on the right:
club with the handle up to Left of Zeus
AΛEΞANΔPOY (Alexander) to Right of Zeus

I believe this is a link to a similar mint
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/c...g=11543&fld=

This link also shows a similar mint but is a tetradrachm.

My biggest concern with my coin is the proportion of eagle to Zeus' head. In the 2 links I provided the eagle seems to me to be smaller and sit a little further on the hand. Maybe ive just gone a little mad from looking at these coins so closely for so many hours the past few days.

I have done much less research on the coin on the left but thanks to Bob I know it says ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ (Philip). Meaning it would have been an early posthumous as Philip III was Alexanders older half brother.

Any additional information that could help me understand these coins more is much appreciated.

It's just based on the whim or interpretation of the die engraver. I've seen other large eagles from Lampsakos engravers. Not unusual. For example:

Here's one at CNG. I haven't compared it carefully to yours, but at first glance it appears it may be from the same dies.
