I saw the 90% discussion and was wanting to know what dealers or webuygold pay for lower purity coins. This is the coins that I have some of that I could cash in for melt.

pretty sure it is against the law to melt copper cents/ coins, that haven't been demonitized, or taken out of circulation.. I am sure it happens, but probably not allowed..

With respect, I suggest that the labor involved in saving and hauling around old copper cents for their melt value is the definition of a fool's errand.

Thirty pounds of pre-1982 Lincolns is worth about $54 in face value. So even if you could spend gas money to schlep them directly to a smelter who could melt them legally, how much would you make?

And after years of setting them aside and rubbing your hands together?

Basically, lunch money.

There is slightly over 0.7 cents worth of zinc in a Zincoln.
It won't be too long before I start my zinc stash!

@Coinfrog - I have a friend who has put aside every copper cent he's received in change for the past 20 years or so. I sort of told him the same thing a few years ago, but he's soldiering on. Might be a nice opportunity at some point for searching for errors and varieties, however...

About $30-$60kg for US copper coins in NZ and if unchecked rolls easily $50-$200 per roll excl postage costs for Lincoln pennies. Trademe is our main selling platform before ebay. US buyers are welcome to trademe to sell rolls I'd love to roll hunt 8-)

My dealer cannot match Provident Metal's (US) buy price, which is approx 93% of spot for War Nickels, and right about 95% for 40% halves. You must have at least $1k worth to sell.

@ Oldfordman - Provident Metals also buys US copper cents, but you'd have to call to get their price.
