I assume that feature is raised, not a gouge? Suggest taking a couple close and sharp photos of the neck/collar area from couple different angles--not vertical, but 'looking in'. Thanks. Greasy Fingers Pillar of the Community United States 7053 Posts	Posted 07/14/2021 11:14 pm IMO due to its age, I'm thinking zinc rot, a small hole has allowed air to enter under the copper plating causing the zinc core to corrode and the corrosion has traveled in a direction where the plating was not firmly attached to the zinc. merclover Bedrock of the Community United States 10635 Posts	Posted 07/16/2021 11:42 pm I agree with Greasy, this is most likely is a zinc rot plating issue. If air gets trapped under the copper coating and the zinc then corrodes, it's the beginning of the end for this cent. Report this Post to the Staff
