I think this is a plating error. Push down on it with a toothpick to check.

To me that vertical feature doesn't look like a typical zinc cent plating bubble. I assume that feature is raised, not a gouge? Suggest taking a couple close and sharp photos of the neck/collar area from couple different angles--not vertical, but 'looking in'. Thanks.

IMO due to its age, I'm thinking zinc rot, a small hole has allowed air to enter under the copper plating causing the zinc core to corrode and the corrosion has traveled in a direction where the plating was not firmly attached to the zinc.

Edited: Do you have a scale? Have you weigh it? Wouldn't it be nice for the OP if its weight was 3.1...

I agree with Greasy, this is most likely is a zinc rot plating issue. If air gets trapped under the copper coating and the zinc then corrodes, it's the beginning of the end for this cent.
