Hi I've inherited two medals and would like some help on valuations. They were my father's. He always said the Victoria had a mint error, but I think it's just been dropped. Any advice welcome thank you.

I don't want to get your hopes up for nothing, but could the second one be this?

Do the size and weight match the listing?
and this would be the first one.

Thank you for the welcome.

Hi yes that looks like the exact 2,

Its the smaller Winston Churchill, and I also have a certificate to say its a limited edition of a 1000.

If it is indeed that gold medal it is worth at least 1.38*[Gold Price] today = $2,525 USD
Curious. Is there anything written on the edge?
note: don't touch the faces of the coin to remove it. Only touch the edges.

The Victorian Medal is classified as an:

Eimer-1817a

Victoria Diamond Jubilee 1897 The official Royal Mint issue in silver
56mm diameter
81.77 grams

Obverse: Bust left, crowned, veiled and draped, VICTORIA ANNVM REGNI SEXAGESIMVM FELICITER CLAVDIT XX MDCCCXCVII

Reverse: Young Head of the Queen, left, dividing inscription LONGITVDO DIERVM IN DEXTERAEIVS ET IN SINISTRA GLORIA. Below: 1837 upon a branch tied with ribbon.

Official Royal Mint issue an official red box of issue.

Going rate is anywhere from $75 to $260+ on these. Your medal will be much towards the top end I believe. Hard to say on the "error" from the photos, but I'm inclined to vote on your side that is damage from being dropped.

Either damage from being dropped or ex-jewelry.

Good call Jimbucks, that would be the right spot for a loop to have been soldered on.
