HI guys, comelete newbie here.

I've just found the box of old and foreign coins my grandad gave me when I was a child and has been in the loft for the past 15 years.

In it is what I think is an Austrian coin which dates 1752.

The face side has the inscription FRANC.D.G.R.I.S A.GER.I ER.REX

The tails side has a crest with a sword eitherside and the inscription MEA.1752. TU DOMINE.

Its a fraction larger than a US Dime and a UK new 5p. Its silver by the way.

Are these common?

1700's coins aren't my specialty so I don't have any details on it.

We love pictures here so feel free to post some of the 1850's

HI thanks for the welcome.

I'm going to make a list of the 1800's ones and will post it on here. Its been fun sorting them all out into "old" and "foreign" sections. lol

Sadly, this coin which GraceOutcast pictured is a reproduction of an Austrian gold coin. I have two, given to me by my grandma; one has "COPY" on it in big bold letters underneath the portrait, one does not.

I believe they were a Reader's Digest promotional gimmick from the 1970's or 1980's.

Here are my two:

Both retain most of their gilding, though the one on the left has clearly suffered more from being removed from it's card than the other. I think that one had a big blob of greenish glue on it when I was given it, which I removed with acetone. The one on the right has "COPY" below the portrait.

I remember reading an article about the various varieties of these, but I can't recall if it was a web page or from a magazine. I can't find it now.
