Howdy all. I just picked up my first hammered shilling, after wanting one for the longest time. While I felt confident enough in it's authenticity to pick it up, I still thought it'd be prudent to have some more experienced eyes take a look.

Looks good to me, hammered and all. The mint mark is throwing me though.

Is it Blackamoor 1626 - 1627 or a Provincial shilling of Chester (Gerb) or Worcester (Pear) 1644 - 1645.

Nice slightly damaged and wonky piece, no one would fake one like this, they aim for the perfectly struck ones. Decent condition (Fine or a bit better).

Nice find!

Thank you @Princetane for your thoughts! Not sure what mint it could be, I've only just gotten into Caroline-era coins. I thought it might be from Falconer's anonymous issue in Scotland around 1641-1642.

Also, what exactly would cause damage like this? I'm assuming the crack is most likely from the striking, though there are several slight dents around the portrait that makes a rectangle. Also looks like some slight bends at some point. It might have been part of jewelry at one point?

I think you are right - it is a Falconer Issue, but a 12 shillings, not a shilling. (Inflation had been much worse in Scotland than England, so there was no longer equivalence between the two realms.)
I have it in the Coincraft book on Scottish coins from 1999 with a ref: SC112S-040. It is the last issue for the denomination and monarch. The mintmark is a thistle, which you can see at the top on the obverse, obliterated on the reverse.

. Just a FYI: always best to remove coins from holders, especially 2x2 holders before taking photos.

Thank you all for the welcomes and thoughts! It's super neat that it's the last issue for Charles, minted just before the start of the Civil War. I managed to get some pretty nice photos using a macro lens for my phone. Not sure why it looks so brown, the colors on my phone must be off.

Nice image!

You can probably do some adjustments in software on your phone, depending on the model, or on a PC using software like Paint.NET or GIMP.
