Sorry to say, it is not a WAM.

The WAM has about the same gap between A and M and it does between M and E. Notice the gap differences on your example.

From what I understand there are no examples of the Wide AM on the 1998 d penny and that is a noticable gap between the AM don't you think

It is not a Wide AM. The gap you see has just been created by environmental damage. The design is for the Close AM variety. Notice how the FG is also the Close AM variety and not the pre-1993 FG design.

There is no 1998D WAM. All Denver cents were a CAM
only the Philadelphia mint produced a WAM

Take a look at the FG to the right of the Memorial building. Notice how it's further out, not close to the building? If it is further out, than means it's a Close AM (CAM). And the reverse of this is true as well, if the FG is close to the building, it's a Wide AM ( WAM). This is always a good indicator to use.

All 1992 were supposed to be WAM. Yet 2 cam examples exist.
This one is a cam though.
