Is there a distinction (two different) ASE Proof issues for the 2016-W and the 2016-W 30th Anniversary Lettered Edge coins?

I am doing some book-keeping on my ASE Proof set and couldn't find this information anywhere on the interwebs...

It was my understanding that all of the proof West Point ASEs in 2016, had the edge lettering (as did the 2016-W Burnished ASEs). I didn't think there was a plain edge variety for the West Point Proof ASEs.

I thought only the bullion version of the 2016 ASEs came without the anniversary inscription on the edge.

@commems is correct, as usual. Both the proof and uncirculated ("burnished") offerings available directly from the mint were given the edge-icused lettering treatment. The bullion product (available only through PM dealers) was not.

While a nice touch, I think many collectors would have preferred some kind of privy mark on one of the faces vs edge lettering, which is nearly impossible to see in slabs and not visisble at all in albums without removing the coins.

Absolutely! I have a PCGS Slabbed 2016-W and I can't see the edge lettering.

The 2016-W Proof ASE in my Reagan Coin & Chronicles set has the edge lettering, of course. It is not too difficult to see once you remove the ASE holder from its spot in the folder.

I have a 2016 Proof graded NGC and they made enough space between the coin and the slab to see the lettering.

I saw a pr68 at a far away coin shop. It was for $80 and I was not going to buy that oz of silver for over 3x spot.
