I found this today. I'm not sure what happened to the bottom of the center design, but on the right side of the design it looks as if the river continues through it.

The pictures are a bit close to see the whole area but I would have to say that it is either a clash mark from Washington's hair or a small die crack.

A good die clash does have added value in my opinion -- but not too much. I know several people who collect them - but they search rolls and find most of them on their own. I've seen quarters with bold clash marks sell for $5-$10 on ebay. I've also seen them listed at $3 and not sell.

I've got a good collection started. I have bought some and found some. I find the State Quarters particularly interesting -- trying to figure out with each new design what the clashes should look like. Some I find are very minor and just go into the discard pile. But a nice one like this, with a clear outline of the ear, ponytail and neck make it into my clash collection.

I'm curious... does yours show any obverse clash marks? If present, they should be just under the ear and under the jawline.
