Die chips are fairly normal on the Shield cents.
Especially around the shield for some reason.

Note that part of the shoulder affects that area on the die, during a clash. The when the die is polished off, the damaged chip is all that is left to show on that area. Other types of chips on that area:

Reverse clash lines from the obverse:

Harder to see, but on the 2/3 area down on the lower shield lines you can see the clash line on the right.(Above the 'N' on CENT) {The mark above the 'N' on ONE is a contact hit on that area}
