It was mechanically filed off (unfortunately) so I think one couldn't say much looking at it

You can see that from the picture and it's a big clue that this is a cast.

Ok yes exactly. It is common to file away the parting line on these case fakes. Your current pics suggest that this is the case, but a view edge-on is nice as a clincher.

It looks as if the edge was ground off on a grinding wheel, and not much care taken.

The surface texture also has signs of the sand grains used for casting.
