Is this mint mark a D over a P, qiyh another P over that D ?

It looks like 3 diff marks/outlines to me. Thoughts please?
And what would make the coin this color also?

It can not be a OMM=over mint mark because they stopped in 1955,so you can rule that out.

Circulation flattening from vending machines altered your coin.

They stopped what?
if they still make mint marks now, couldn't there be a slight possibility that it happened again... and if that's the case I would assume it to be more rare based on what you just mentioned John.

I've come across a lot of pretty colorful, oddly shaped/Damaged coins. If I had a better understanding of what's what I could probably get a nice collection going since I manage a wendys, I always have access to tons of free rolls to sift through... panning for that gold lol

On your coin, the vending machine damage altered the 'P'. There was never a 'D' mintmark present. So your coin is just damage. Note the shape on the mintmark on the upper left corner? That is part of a 'P' mintmark. The 'D' mintmark shape is different.

The only thing that I would add is that the surface staining might be from environmental exposure.
