I have so many questions about Lincoln cents. The problem is that someone would have to start with this is how you take a picture! I am a fast learner and by the way I am a honors high school math teacher (go figure). I figure if you had a Morgan dollar for every time you have heard this, you might have a complete set! Things like this make me a better teacher and more patient with my students. Think of it like this, you would be contributing to the education of hundreds of students! LOL Bill |

WOW that is a leading question! ;-) Wellp, first you need some sort of imaging device! ;-) I vastly prefer a real camera but it seems the whole world thinks their cellphone is THE thing to take photos with. Maybe it is if you have a $$$ phone, but they will never match the versatility of a real camera, especially a (D)SLR. There are also those nifty purpose-built macro cameras that mineral collectors also use. I know there are many cheap versions, but I don't know how much the professional-level ones cost. Now, if you mean what TYPE of photos do coin collectors want, that I can't really help you with as I am new to the Coin World. I have just about given up on mineral photography as it is! |

The question has so many possibilities. To take a regular snap all you really need is your phone. You frame your object hold it steady and press the shutter button. If you are into birds, nature or want high end photo a dedicated camera is important. If you want to take astrophotographs than you have a serious learning curve.  |

If you mean the process of adding photos to your thread, take a look at the tutorial. Hardest part is shrinking the file size below 300 MB and downloading it to your device before attaching the smaller file to your post.

Also takes a little practice to rotate and crop photos, or you'll incur the wrath of folks who don't like to squint or rotate their heads 90 degrees. ;-)

I was joking above but to take good pictures, you need the following: 1) A good camera 2) A proper set-up (this can be light boxes or a camera on a tripod) 3) Knowing about how to actually take a picture using Aperture/Speed/ISO think of this as a math problem, the answer is 1000 there are many ways to get to 1000, a camera taking pictures is the same. 4) Some type of editing skills, I shoot in RAW, process all my images and edit them and resize them before I post. With an iphone one can do all the above. 5) If the picture is blurry do it again. And the 300k limit is not an issue. Some pictures. Here is a note I own this is about 300K. I don't have an expensive camera. If you are good at working a scanner, Bank notes and Lincoln cents look good. But the scanner is not so good on silver or gold colored coins. I reduce the picture size in Microsoft Paint. These are scanner pics. Click pic to enlarge.

Hey guys I am back at my computer. There are several things you need to know . I bought a new computer from best buy a Dell desktop 3000 inspiron. The geek squad transferred all pertinent info for me. I am having the hardest time just accessing windows 10. I have read the tutorials several times. I have no clue what .gif or .jpg format is or what 300k in size means. This is where I am at, I have been able to take a picture of the coins and send them to my email address. A lot of people over 55 have problems with technology. Mostly because it's learning a new language.
I know 95% of everything about a handheld gps and the same for a Texas Instruments graphing calculator from programing to logarithmic regressions! I just can't navigate on a computer. when I see someone say download this or that I freeze up. If anyone wants to take up this daunting task , they will forever change this old farts' life. If someone out there is willing to help. Think of it like this, I can open coin community forum, then all heck breaks loose. Bill

.gif and .jpg (or jpeg) are image formats that can reduce the size of the image file. Of course, that also reduces image quality.
There are other formats that are "lossless". Those are used when you can't loose a lot of image quality.
Does Windows still come with Paint? My Windows 7 Pro PC has it. That is a basic program you can try. I believe there is a free basic graphics program out there that starts with a "G"... GIMP I think?

Irfanview is what I use to resize. It has the ability at Save to set a maximum file size which is really nice. I found that I can do 1200 Pixels on the longer side and till keep the image at under 300K. Irfanview is also free and they do accept donation (so do like JBuck says) https://www.irfanview.com/

I got it. As soon as I went back to school , I had several students walk me thru the process.. Many things are hard until someone shows you how! Several of my students were moe than happy to teach the teacher.. (go figure)
