Here's another example of new Nikon photos; I'm pretty pleased so far with how well this machine is working. This little coin is in PCGS plastic. Any guesses on the grade?

I originally bought this beauty in an NGC slab and PCGS crossed it at a different grade. You get bonus points if you can guess the original NGC grade as well!

Forget the grade, Tell me more about the camera. Right now I am using an Olympus Camedia D-425 and I am looking to really up-grade. I want something that will accept different lens.

If all those light scratches are on the holder I would go with a MS-65

Before you are demoralized by my opinion, folks, remember that regardless of grade this coin is one of only 600. It's a very important coin, either way.

However, you have to consider that in most cases the TPG's (especially PCGS) hold Proofs to a higher standard than Business Strike coins. One should need to be using a loupe to see the imperfections in a PF66 coin. This example, although obviously Cameo, does not meet that high standard.

NGC PF65CAM, now PCGS PF64CAM, and a relative bargain for that fact.

For all those guessing MS grades, this is a proof only coin- the final mintage of the 3CS. I have to go PF64CAM as well with the abrasions on the star. Regardless of the grade, it is an awesomely rare coin with great eye appeal

It should be noted for those of you who are unfamiliar with the 3CS - unlike most pictures posted here, this coin is pictured close to three times its' actual size. They're tiny - only 14mm wide. The marks on Jaobler's coin look large in the pics, but you'd be hard-pressed to see any of them at all in-hand.

Beyond any doubt, this coin is stunning in person.

Thanks everyone for your comments. This is a sweet little coin but it does have some tiny marks as can be seen in the photos. You were all very close on the grades as this was originally in an NGC PR-64 holder. I sent it in to PCGS in the slab for crossover and they called it PR-64 CAM. So, the numerical grade is a solid 64. I don't know why NGC didn't call it Cameo but the coin clearly deserves a CAM rating.

Tim Stroud, the camera is a Nikon D60 which the fetching Mrs. Jaobler gave me for Christmas. Best Buy had a sale on this model for about $550 which included their basic Nikkor 18-55 lens and that is the set-up I'm using. I put the camera on a tripod, set to macro, zoom in as tight as it can go (which puts the lens about 9 inches from the coin) and use the self-timer to trip the shutter. A tiny coin like this three-center only fills a small part of the viewfield and I have to crop the picture severely. The camera fortunately has enough resolution to still provide good detail.

There's an important point to be made, with this statement. You don't have to spend silly money on an expensive Macro lens if the basic camera/lens is good enough - if the stock setup can do a picture of a 3CS this large, then it will shoot quality, gradable images of anything.
