If you could post a few pics of your coin, collectors here could give their advice.

There are certainly plenty of genuine 1732 Mexican 8 reale "pillar" dollars around. There are also plenty of fakes. Frankly, we will need to see a picture to tell them apart.

And while on this topic, can some-one please suggest where can safely purchase 1732M and/or 1732MX items?

Thank you, Les

Capercents, when you say "writing on the reverse" you lead me to believe what you have is a tourist token or other type of "fake souvenier type coin" Here is a link to a photo of an actual 1732 pillar dollar

http://www.columnarios.com/images/1732mo_f.jpg

GoodasGold, if you are refering to 8 reales, there are 1732Mo coins and there are 1733Mo and 1733MX coins but I am not aware of any real 1732Mx coins. There are a few (very rare) 1733/32 Mx coins that give suspicion of the 1732MX, no no verified 1732MX has ever been found. Email me and I can send you scans of the 33's in my collection if you are interested. There are 4 major varieties, of which I have 3. I can also give some input as to where to go to buy them
