I'm not a medals enthusiast, but thought of getting one for my 93 year old father-in law who was in the Guard during World War II. $64 an ounce silver is kind of steep though. I passed, but I might relent. His birthday is in October. I know there's a one ounce medal coming out next year, but when you're 93 you try not to put off things.

That's great! I also thought the price was excessive for a medal, but well worth it to honor your father-in-law. Whenever the Navy 2.5 ounce silver medal comes out, I'm sure I'll get that for myself in remembrance of my Dad, who spent his career in the Navy.

Many years ago, I bought the bicentennial of the Navy 3" bronze medal, and it sits on a shelf alongside a photo of Dad in full dress uniform taken around when he retired in '75, which coincidentally was the year of the Navy bicentennial...

I was reading an article on coin news.com saying the next 3 medals, (Army,Navy, and Marines) are 5 ounce. I like the medals but these were $160 each. That makes the future medals $320-$360 each? I wanted all of them but not sure now.
