Its cool and if I were a billionaire would go for a 1944 steel cent. Wow! now that's a pretty penny. Calling the sale between 125 - 150. To bad it couldn't be a walk in on Pawn Stars "ya but I'm the one who has to wait for a buyer, 40 grands my tops write him up a ticket Chumblee".

@Bumpkin, it's natural to be a bit suspicious of a listing like this on ebay, as we've all seen lots of crazy things out there. When I buy on ebay or other selling platform on the internet, especially for larger expenditures, I only buy from dealers I'm very familiar with either personally or through the broader numismatic community. That's why, in my earlier reply to you, I pointed out the bio of the dealer offering this aluminum cent as I was familiar with him and thought that would be useful info. No slight was meant to you at all.

Hi hokiefan. Nothing at all was taken the wrong way by your post. I sincerely appreciate your perfectly clear explanation you gave about the seller and ebay, based on my first post from earlier today, in which I was grossly mistaken and I owned up to. It would have been nice if a few others would have been as congenial and explanatory as you. I appreciate your professionalism. I'm over it...... I have moved on. Thank you for your comment quoted above!

@Bumpkin - I agree with others that a healthy dose of skepticism is always needed at ebay, so no need to apologize. Even after looking up the number on NGC, I still wondered about listing there instead of Heritage or S & B. It sure is newsworthy though!

I find it interesting that error collectors will pay big money for a coin that was intentionally made as an error. Yes it's unique but it's an inside job (someone made it on purpose) Considering how the mint doesn't like it's non released products to be sold (1974 aluminum cent, 1964 Peace dollar , or the 1933 Gold $20,etc). If I was a buyer (which I'm not) I would be concerned the mint can say "this was never authorized give it back" and like the Langford family and their 10 1933 gold Eagles you have to give it back . Just saying paying a lot of money for something that maybe confiscated would be in the back of my mind.

@Bumpkin - To be honest, I purposely put little information other than a link to start this post because I too had never heard of Mike Byers. I wasn't sure whether this listing was legit or not. I knew people would weigh in and I'd learn the truth. I appreciate your honesty.

No worries my friend. Thank you for your comment about my honesty, that's the one thing I know about, have done my best as a father to instill it in my children, and that's how I live my life. I appreciate it. Every day is a different day and we must move forward and forget about the past while at the same time learning from our honest mistakes which, in the long run, will ultimately make us better individuals. Thanks!
