Fantastic error! What a bargain at only 35 million times face value! I was just reading about the different aluminum Lincoln Cents late last night. I never realized how many time the mint struck Lincoln cents on aluminum planchets. I would love to open a nice fresh uncirculated roll of cents to find a few aluminum strikes hiding inside! I really like the Proof 66 - 1942 Wheat cent that was struck as a test piece for possible use in 1943. Here's a link to the sale of that coin on Heritage. https://coins.ha.com/itm/patterns/1...sults-012417 It sold for almost $200k.

I find it interesting NGC made a typo on the holder insert - "ALUNIMUM". Shows up that way, as well, on the NGC cert verification page.

I just looked this one up too hokie on the NGC Cert. page. It amazingly is a valid Cert. number but....... something is fishy here IMO. I notified NGC via email in case they want to investigate further. ebay is the last place I would put up a coin for sale that is this rare, if in fact it is even the real deal.

His lists these type of things all the time. The big guns list a lot of high dollar coins on ebay. The folks at NGC will get a good laugh at your report though.

I like that he includes "an intentionally made mint error" in one of his images. Still a cool error...

Hello to all. I don't know Mike Byers, I don't buy super valuable and expensive coins, and basically I don't buy coins in general at all. I'm glad everyone got a good laugh out of my post and that bobby thinks NGC will as well. Not the reason for my post obviously. I am not ashamed to admit when I am wrong so in this case I WAS WRONG...... and I apologize. More people need to admit when they are wrong and I honorably do so when I have made a mistake. Maybe I need to be more involved on ebay coin sales but I have a hard time doing so. Not even coins I'm referring to here but I have been burned, more like torched, on buying stuff off of ebay in the past that I choose now not to buy from there. I did see Mike has 100% feedback which is GREAT! Congrats Mike and well done because there are a lot of scammers out there and you surely are not one from quick education I just got here . By no means at all did I mean any disrespect to Mike Byers and I apologize to him as well. There you have it. Anyone else like to comment on my idiotic mistake? That's fine if it will make you feel better, feel free. Also, Grapes could have gone without his comment "we must be scammers too". Please show, or quote me, where I called anyone a 'scammer'...Thank you. Typos are really quite common on TPG slabs. I have a 1968-D Roosevelt dime certified (#18190490) as a PCGS Mint Error MS65 that has "Imporper Obv Cladding" I could return it and they would correct the label, but I like the fact that it's an "Error Error." The only way I'll ever be able to list a six-figure coin on ebay or anywhere else is if it has a hexagonal shape.

Quote: I like that he includes "an intentionally made mint error" in one of his images. Still a cool error... Many of his listings are very likely intentional errors - the two 1970-S proof quarters, one on a Barber quarter and one on an old Canadian quarter, as well as the "matched set" of Lincoln cent/Panama .1 balboa mules, among others. Yes, very interesting, but when I see coins like this I always wonder if error collectors (which I'm not) generally make a distinction between true errors and "intentionally made" errors. I realize the distinction may be very fuzzy in many cases, and the "intentional" errors ARE coming from the mint, but still...

If somebody buys it, and the fees are consistent with the coins I've sold, then ebay will take about $50,000 in fees. Yowza

Quote:Typos are really quite common on TPG slabs. Over the years, I've seen several NGC/PCGS slabbed modern commems on ebay with actually the wrong coin listed on the label (the U.S. Army and Infantry Soldier commems are the ones I've seen most often mislabeled). I guess that's bound to happen occasionally for bulk submissions of modern issues. I've always messaged the ebay seller to let them know when I see this; most just say they'll send it back to the TPG for relabeling; once or twice, the coin was later re-listed as a "rare label error" at a much higher price .

Not to accuse anyone of any misdoing , but I find it odd that a rare coin like that would have been miss handled by at least a few unknowing hands and be marked and scratched up to pull an MS-60 grade and not higher .

@Bumpkin, it's natural to be a bit suspicious of a listing like this on ebay, as we've all seen lots of crazy things out there. When I buy on ebay or other selling platform on the internet, especially for larger expenditures, I only buy from dealers I'm very familiar with either personally or through the broader numismatic community. That's why, in my earlier reply to you, I pointed out the bio of the dealer offering this aluminum cent as I was familiar with him and thought that would be useful info. No slight was meant to you at all.
