Doubled one photo. Sorry. Here is the missing edge photo.

My thoughts are that your coin is a very slight misaligned die. It is not an off-center strike because all of the design elements are fully present. It is not a Tilted die because once again, all of the design elements are present and the planchet received a full uniform strike all the way around. As far as die cracks, I can't see any in your pictures but if they are present this is completely normal.

The crack I'm referring to on this coin appears on the collar edge reeding of the coin. On the third side of the coin.

Sent Mike a note on this one. I've not seen this before. It might be something like a cracked collar? I've seen images of vertical cracks, but not horizontal ones?

Quote: The crack I'm referring to on this coin appears on the collar edge reeding of the coin. On the third side of the coin I now see what you are referring to on the edge of the coin that I obviously missed earlier thinking you meant die cracks on the faces of the coin (maybe they are there too, I can't make them out, and that's what you meant as well, my apologies). The edge is interesting for sure. I'm with coop on this one concerning what appears to be that defined line/indentation around the rim of your coin, odd..... Doesn't appear to be PSD/PMD to me. I'm now leaning more toward an issue with the collar as coop pointed out but still possibly a slight MAD in conjunction with a collar issue.... no idea. Like John1 also said, your pics are a bit dark. Anxious to see if Mike chimes in and what he says.

I've found a lot of these on dimes for whatever reason, and I don't believe they are truly railroad rims/partial collars. I will be interested to hear Mike Diamond's thoughts if he weighs in.

Like SamCoin, I've seen this edge effect on quite a few dimes. I'm wondering if it has something to do with an unusually dramatic cut-and-tear texture on the blank caused by a dulled hole in the perforated base plate (or spindle). If not entirely erased during upset, it could persist through the strike. But this is just a guess.

Thanks for all the information and feedback everyone. I am going to battle with my microscope and take some pictures of the exact location on the rim the crack runs off the coin face and onto the reeding edge. This was another coin I received in change from my local market.
