Nothing much, but I had this silver (.10) 1960 1 peso from Mexico that was just plain ugly. Don't know if it was glue, varnish or what. Soaked all afternoon in acetone and it helped (I'd given it a short bath a few years ago with little effect, so decided to try again but for much longer). Still only worth melt value, about $1.25, but at least it's a bit more presentable now. The scratches are lot more noticeable now, though .

Impressive recovery, but agree it's now clearly a "details" coin.

Good example of acetone's abilities.

I "restored" a Peace dollar that I bought at a LCS that was in his junk silver bin. It looked terrible. But after a long soak in acetone, it ended up being AU grade and a very handsome coin.

ALways a very handsome type, and now much better! Looks like old tape residue maybe.

That's very possible. Whatever it was it was quite thick and hardened, and took a very long soak to loosen it up. Even then I had to lightly rub with a cotton swab to get it to come off.

Definitely glue residue. Coin is much spiffier after the acetone bath.
