The problem is that quarters don't circulate as fast as they used to and only pass through about 20 hands before they are found. Many are nabbed at the source which limits the number in circulation. If you don't live in an area with a vibrant economy few new coins are coming from the mint greatly reducing your odds.
I've been pretty lucky so far and have found two of them. One is a high end AU that traded hands about ten times and the other is BU.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I saw an episode of Pawn Stars the other night where one of the jolly fellows bought a box of quarters from a local casino to search for W quarters stating that they were worth $100 each. He cracked the rolls in a slovenly way (you'll have to see the episode to see what I mean but you're not missing anything if you don't). It was a little irritating that they were searching them just to flip and but what else did I expect from a show about a for-profit business? Regardless, it it makes me believe that a majority of people looking for them are doing the same thing and that "The Great American Coin Hunt" is more for flippers than for casual collectors.
Sheesh, that's a pessimistic viewpoint for a Friday afternoon. Maybe I'll go have a cookie to cheer up.

Maybe I'll go have a cookie to cheer up. My wife bought me a bag of Reese's Halloween shapes for that very reason (my general pessimistic long-view formed over the last 17 months).

I went to the local coin show Sunday and asked the one dealer who always sells all the new coins if he'd be willing to accept $30 for the four W's I still need (that would be $7.50 each).
He was almost in shock, and said that there's NO WAY he'd ever be able to sell them that low, as he had paid WAY more from other dealers to get his stash. BTW, he had his in 2x2's and sold priced them anywhere from $15-$25 each. He also told me the 2019 Mariana Islands were 'super rare'.
I ended up walking away after I told him I'd ask again at the next show, and see if he needed the sales then.
Now, I'm pretty sure he paid 25¢ each for those W's, and I thought my offer was very fair, as my normal purchase price for W quarters is $5. Also, that 2019 Mariana can't be any harder to find than all the other types, as there are TWO MILLION of each out there somewhere.

Probably a good call walking away. However the W's are starting to push above $10 easily. I just sold one for $13. I have a few more I'm gonna try to get at least that amount for.
Edit: And yes I found it in change so it only cost me a quarter.

I haven't seen a W for sale in a retail shop for less than $12. Usually priced between $12-$20 each. I've never bought one at those prices, and I don't understand how they are that expensive. Just the hype is my assumption.

I'm probably a bit biased, but it's been near 2 years for the 2019s and nearing a year for the 2020s since release, They were up,they went down, and they've gone back up again already. Now I think it's possible to get circulated ones, low MS for $5-$10, even lower, but nice gem uncirculated are going to cost something more, even ungraded, and I don't see that going down any time soon for that category, only up in the long run. 1-2 years of hype sure is a lot of hype, meanwhile they still sell regularly on ebay every single day. the "hype" should have ended a while ago on the first fall they all took.
