Russ789 Pillar of the Community United States 623 Posts	Posted 08/27/2021 11:44 pm The coin with the scratch on the back is mine and I have owned it for a few years. The reason I posted both is since I have the opportunity to purchase the other, my research has me questioning whether mine is legit after finding out there are more fakes than real coins. What I can say about the nicer coin is that I do believe it has been buffed/tooled. I do have a microscope and here are some pics from both reverses. it is hard to tell but when I originally looked at the nicer coin (under a 10x loupe) it appeared as if the 1854 was was engraved. If you look hard enough at these pics (I have focused on the date) it seems that the nicer coin has less metal. Edited by Russ789 08/27/2021 11:45 pm Report this Post to the Staff

Starting to think the same thing...especially the ear that was mentioned above.
