It looks like a lot of wear and maybe a few hard hits with some metal displacement. I don't think anything here could be attributed to a mint error or variety.

Note the outside edge of the rim? It looks like it was used in a lot of vending machines through the years. If this were a die issue, the other devices around that area would also be affected. So circulation flattening, circulation damage has taken its toll. It is still doing it job 55 years later. Not a doubled die, just an honest normal worker coin.
