Still playing around with the new camera....
1873 was the year in which the greatest number of US coin types and denominations was minted. The total count of 20 coins includes the cent, 2¢, 3¢ silver, 3¢ nickel, 5¢ nickel, and
Half Dime. Then there are the dime, quarter, and half dollar, each of which exists with and without arrows. Next are the seated, trade, and gold dollar coins. Finally, you have the quarter eagle, $3 gold, half eagle, eagle, and double eagle. For the real specialists there are also the Closed 3 and Open 3 varieties for most of these coins. But I digress.....
In any case, I thought that would be one heck of a proof set to assemble. I did get the 3¢ Silver and the 2¢ coins for my proof set, but haven't gotten around to picking up the rest of them. I already posted the 3¢ Silver in the grading forum, so here's the 2¢ piece. No suspense on this one: it's the Closed 3 ("original") variety, graded PR-64 RD by PCGS.
