I know MD is nothing special but I do seem to see in much less then on US coins and I do like the look of some of the MD and DDD coins I see. So this little guy will go into a 2×2. I know most people don't care about these but since I enjoy finding them I'm going to keep them when it a nice MD especially if I can see it without zooming.

I don't think that it's MD, I think DDD. Most, if not all, MD's are due to the die being loose in the holder and slightly moving in the nanoseconds after the actual strike and dragging a little off the planchet.. As such, it would be hard to see how just a single portion of the back of her shoulder/neck was affected and nothing else.. It just wouldn't suddenly end

Could be right okiecoiner, I'm not sure how to tell the difference when it's the queen's back. Either way I'm gonna start holding onto these in 2×2s only when they are nice shape and easily visible, they are probably like 1/100 and 1/500 for a really clear version. Idk why I just like the way they look, like the one double date penny I posted

Thanks okie coiner that makes sense to me l. I have seen some like this that cover the whole back rather then just part of it.

Sorry about the misdirection, SPP. I'd never seen one that started and ended suddenly. I'm used to seeing MD gradually fade unidirectionally on the coin. I realize it is "shelf-like", but thought that DDD could look the same sometimes.

I think I prefer the DDD I have found over the MD, but if it's big enough I'll keep it:).

You can find similar MD to this on a lot of the 1979 one cent coins also, probably the worst year for it.
Cheers, Bill

Thanks bill, iv seen it on a bunch of different years, usually it's smaller then this, I prefer DDD dates that can resemble doubled dies, good to have for a reference when I come across a real one. MD iv seen in tiny spots on the leafs and dates, usually don't see it in ledgands weirdly, but it could just be to small for me to notice.
