I work with a rare coin dealer who submits a lot of coins to PCGS. I had him submit a 1783 Nova Costellation pointed Rays small US IN VG condition and he lost the coin. There is no record of it with PCGS. He knows it's his error. Because it was a Crosby 2B, I can't find another one so his offer of paying me how much I paid for the coin, which I purchased from him, a while back, is not really making me whole. The coin I thought was more
Expensive attributed than raw, which is how I purchased it. He's one of the top dealers in the US, and I know he did not abscond with a couple hundred dollar coin when he just showed me some coins worth a lot.

What is a fair ask?

Rights right and wrongs wrong but you need to consider what his relationship and future help may be and what it's worth to you in the long run. Sometimes you have to give a little in order to keep that tough to find connection. Maybe he will meet you in the middle, have you thrown out a counter offer?

Thanks for the input, makecents makes the most sense as I enjoy the dealer's insights and friendship. I'm going to not ask for cash just yet, but will ask if any of his colleagues have the coin in stock and if they will sell it to him at the price I paid, and then I get it from him.
