I still think, stuff this "hot", no one wants to touch. Smack it with a hammer, and into the scrap bin it goes to be melted down. You asked for opinions. I would love to see them discovered in the future for the tale's sake, but I also think we will never know.

When I had first posted I wasn't sure if this was all true. It's a pretty interesting story and a pretty huge mint blunder lol

The RCMP has already done their investigation on this matter blaming both the RCM and the shipping company, one can conclude that something happened with the shipping outfit almost sure if someone returned the missing set you will be rewarded. In the US defaced coin dies are sold by their mint, you don"t hear of defaced coins being produced.

I was in aware you could purchase defect dies in the USA, I'm not sure if you can do that in Canada. I'm curious what a defective die would he sold for. That would be a cool conversation piece.

In the US they are defaced dies, the mint grinds a x or parts of the design off before sale, I believe in Canada the dies are recycled but there is an obverse die in a collectors collection

Nice subtle touch with the Gordon Lightfoot line jbuck...

I almost went with them being dumped in the lake behind Ray's trailer.

I will play Au contraire here .
Devilish thought , the story is made up as the RCM
Never had any real intention of using the Voyageur
Design . It was rather dated and MOST Canadians never used
either the Silver design made up to 1966 or the nickel version
made up to 1986 in Commerce . They were mostly a gift idea
or for Christmas bonuses and such presentations .
To use one in commerce was not very common at all .
Story line is rather convenient .

Interesting take on this Pacificoin. I agree the dollar coin was seldom used in transactions, because we had a dollar bill. Once the bill was eliminated, and the coin now forced to be used, I don't think the design would have mattered.

The size of old dollars was huge lol I couldn't imagine carrying a box of dollar coin from the bank if they were the old dollars. I'd be like 50Lb or more.
