I posted about the possible existence of these a few days ago, and decided to check all the 1980-89-Ps on my most recent hunt. To my surprise, I found one that I think may actually be an RPM. I've examined it pretty carefully, and I believe the doubling is not caused by a contact mark or MD as there is a separation line and extra thickness. If I am correct, I believe it is a RPM with clockwise rotation after the initial punch.

I can't tell for sure with this image. Can you get some other angles?

@Tanman Will do my best! Been having a tough time getting anything definitive, but I'll keep at it.

Looks like a damaged line. Note when you view the whole mintmark. The normal shape is there, but the coin scratch altering the area you are looking at.

Unfortunately, its looking like a contact mark to me as well. If everything left of the line is a secondary mintmark punch, then the P would be slanted, italicized. Doesn't appear to have an increase in size especially in that last photo.

Definitely a tricky one though.

Thanks guys, appreciate the second set of eyes on this one. I'll definitely keep looking since I think it would be very cool to confirm the existence of an RPM on one of these 1980-89 P's

The glare from the first images hid the device a bit, but the extra images shows the full story.
