Is this doubling on the reverse on the building and the words? Especially the 2nd o in Monticello?

Correct it is Machine Doubling. Not hub doubling. So it is not a doubled die. It was altered by the dies after the strike. On a doubled die, the doubling is on the die and struck onto the coin. If the die is normal, you will not have a doubled die. You will have like on your coin, Machine Doubling. but Machine Doubling can also affect a doubled die. But it is Machine Doubling on a doubled die. The best way to show that this happens is on a 1969-D DDO-001. (the big one)

Notee the 4 DDO date areas: Note that the full devices are showing a doubled die. But note the yellow arrows? That is were the doubled die was altered to have Machine Doubling on these areas. Note that the area affected is the outside edges of the devices are affected and note that they are all pushed in a single direction. So that is why your coin isn't a doubled die, as the devices are normal with Machine Doubling from a normal die. But, did you know the areas to find a doubled die on this year. It is not of the areas you are looking at. It is on the door area of the design.

With the single squeeze dies, the DDR locations on more on that area, not on the locations on the older designs.

CoopHome: Where are the DDR nickel locations on the 1999 forward nickels?
