I was wondering if anyone has been able to find these coins at their local banks yet. I ordered some from the mint on January 6 through the Direct Ship Program and they haven't been shipped yet.

I doubt if banks will order them- most are complaining about not being able to get rid of the Prez dollars they already have on hand. They will probably only reach cirulation through the Direct Ship program.

I stopped by my local coin dealer and was asking him if banks still carried and he said that they do not. I have tried to contact all the banks here and no one had them and have not carried the Sacagawea's for a while.

Today I called 6 different branches of my bank and nobody seemed to know there was a new Sac Dollar.

Even the Mint's web site shows the Direct Ship Program is No Longer Available for the Sac.

Are there more people looking for these? I might be able to still get a few.

I asked my banks. They don't have a clue of what is the Native American dollar. And I feel they must think I was craze for even asking for something like this.

I've been wondering:

Quote:
US Mint: "The United States Mint will continue to produce Presidential $1 Coins and Native American $1 Coins so that the total quantity of $1 coins minted and issued for circulation is sufficient to meet the needs of the Nation. The law requires that at least 20 percent of all such $1 coins minted and issued in any year be Native American $1 Coins."

With the number of Sac's being minted hugely rising in December 2008 for the 2009 Native American business strikes, I'm thinking that the Mint decided that it could make the mandated 20% production of N.A. Dollars early in the year (late Dec., Jan., early. Feb.), then make the Presidential dollar business strikes from mid-Feb. to the end of the year. This would make sense for various reasons.

Economic conditions like this create a backwash of coins coming back in to the Federal Reserve branches, which is why the banks don't have the new 2009 Cents either. (then add to that the banks' existing inventories of earlier Presidential dollars...)
