Hi Guys.

Can anyone tell me if it's true that the Don Bradman 20 cent was actually taken back out of ciculation, because the family of Don were upset that he only got a 20 cent, when most other special issues have been on 50 cent. Is this coin worth collecting?

Regards

Steve

I have never seen one of these in my life, but my maccas guidebook says nothing about them being withdrawn, and that 10 million were produced.

Where did you here about this?

It's only my opinion but if anyone can make it to "Sir" and get depicted on a country's coin, it's no such a big deal if it's a penny, a cent or a dollar.

Hi Guys.

Thanks for your replys, I can't remember where I heard about it, it was a while ago. When I heard I started collecting every one I came across, just in case it was true. Maybe other people might be doing the same, that's why you haven,t seen one, grendelfreak.

What you say is right, Renal. Recogition is good in any form. If you look at it the other way, not many people have knocked the Platypus off the back of a 20 cent.

Nah...it is utter rubbish. The great Don has been featured not only in the 20 cent pieces but other denominations as well. Fact is he is the only sporting icon that has such a wide range of coins minted to commemorate his greatness in the field of sports.

The highest denomination that bears his portrait is the bi metal $20.00 issue and it is in gold.Have a look.

Neither the Bradman family nor the government withdrew these coins. Rather, the collectors and general public withdrew them. At 20c, they were the cheapest Bradman souvenir you were likely to get, and you din't even have to travel to Bowral (Bradman's home town) to get one.

They were hard to find even back when they first came out, and with the near-simultaneous release of the Federation commemoratives, people were paying more attention to what's in their pockets, hunting their change looking for Federation 20c. They didn't stand a chance.

A commemorative is a commemorative Steve, If I were you, I'd like to keep a good amount of them, always there are some who don't have these (for instance me, and even Australians like grandelfreak).

Thanks Renal, I'll keep my eye out for some more. Does anyone have a value on what the Bradman 20c is worth now. is it more than 20c?

Book value is $5 for one in Uncirculated condition.

Those in circulated condition are worth 20c as 10,000,000 of them are hoarded away in that condition. But if it's in better than average condition someone may want to part with 50 cents for it.
