Starting to clean up the coins on my desk I set aside from latest Wheat cent bag to take photo's of or verify.

Looks like a Class VI DDR - Copper Coins only has one listed. Wear would make id tough anyway.

Excellent find.

Finding varieties on an uncirculated coin is exciting [and easy] enough but, being able to spot something like this on worn coins is truly an accomplishment -- I love to see it.

Just went through a sizable lot of 29's myself and didn't find one.

Obviously it is an extremely worn Linc.... But, the egg shaped dots on the reverse and the distorted bottom of the U's in the motto pretty much are a telltale sign of this being a DDR. Even though it is a worn out Cent, great study on your part to see this despite the condition of the coin!

Coppercoins has a listing of a DDR:

It looks similar to this one, but not mentioned as a match. But the dots are a lot larger on the than this coin? So I'm not convinced on this one as being a DDR. It looks more like circulation flattening from what I can see. Still checking yet though.

Wexler show two DDR's:

The WDDR-002 is a lot stronger.

Quote:
1929 1¢ WDDR-002 "Best Of" Variety

Description: Very strong Class VI extra thickness shows on all of the letters of EPU, both dots, both wheat ears, both wheat stems, and the top of the letters in ONE.

Die Markers: Obverse: A die scratch runs north to south to the right of the vertical bar of the L in LIBERTY. A die scratch runs north to south inside the upper R of LIBERTY. Reverse: A short die gouge runs SSW from the lower left C in AMERICA.

He mentions a die scratch on the 'L' on Liberty. Coppercoins doesn't show any markers as well a V.V.

On Wexler's WDDR-001, he has no markers for that die. Also mentions the exmple's condition no this one also.
Here is a side by side of all of these dies, to see them in one view:

The best to look is to put them side by side.

Thanks for the very detailed help COOP. I was thinking that with the wear it wouldn't be possible at all.

Putting them side by side helps pick out the line up easier.
