Not a great picture perhaps, but it is a little smaller than a Lincoln Cent, and apparently made of copper.

It says at the top, "TWO SCRUPLES".

In the middle, the "design" is what appears to be a backwards E, but rounded like a C with a middle tail) and to the right of it in a smaller font, "ii".

Below, it says, "Phila. (M in a diamond) & N.Y."

The middle device on the other side is the same, but the "ii" is much bigger and closer to the backwards E.

Any idea what it is? Is it demonic or something? Masonic?

(Although Phila. & N.Y. sounds like a railroad or something...)

Any idea, anyone?

I believe it's an apothecary dram or weight. A scruple is a unit of measure. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but it's 3 scruples to the dram (or drahm?).

You know, that never entered my mind, and it appears you're right. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yep, a 2 scruples weight. From the inscription, you know it's American-made. This web page lists the "M in diamond" as the mark of John Maris.
