I would appreciate any help anyone can give me concerning the 50 th anniversary Pearl Harbor medal, or point me to somewhere I can find information. The medal appears to be bronze, and is in a green case with gold lettering. Thanks to all in advance, and Happy Holidays!

I have pics on my cell phone. It comes in a green case, gold letters , 50 th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. One side has a picture of battleship row and the date, Dec 7 th 1941. The other side has an Eagle on an olive branch, words saying remember those who served and a date that will live in infamy. My understanding of this medal is that it was the only federal issue, and issued only to survivors of the attack on Pearl harbor.

Unfortunately I've seen over a dozen different medals that are pretty close to your description.

I don't have this exact one but I have seen some before. Sometimes they can go for $5 to $10 but other times only for $1 on ebay. Is there any kind of small folded "certificate of authenticity" in the holder that says what private mint it was made in?

I believe that this is a US Mint product. The most important aspect is "ACT OF CONGRESS 1990", that can only be listed on Congressionally authorized medals produced by the US Mint. This medal was awarded to all military members who were present at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941. https://awards.navy.mil/awards/webd...DocsByID)/DL060306111839/$File/Pearl%20Harbor%20Commemorative%20Medal.pdfhere is another site with more info. I could not find any reference to these medal being publicly sold, only distributed to those that saw action or their surviving family members so I cannot imagine that there were more than a few thousand struck. Most Congressional Medals take the form of a Gold Medal as an award for outstanding lifetime achievement or a singular historic action and then bronze replicas are sold to the public. Since Pearl Harbor involved so many people, it was probably not practical to give out a few thousand gold medals so they just created bronze medals with no replicas available to keep it exclusive. Some recent awardees of the Congressional Gold Medal have been the Tuskeegee Airmen and Dr. Michael DeBakey.

Excellent medal, thanks for sharing

Thanks Graceoutcast, for adding the pics for me, and thanks to all for all the help! There is no certificate of authenticity. It belonged to a friend of my son, I believe he was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. I'll try to post more info as I can.
